Reflecting on My ePortfolio Journey – A Fun, Eye-Opening Experience!
What an exciting and rewarding journey this ePortfolio assignment has been! When I first started the Technology for Teaching & Training course with Dr. Cowan, I didn’t quite realize how much this project would stretch me, in the best way possible. As an administrative assistant, I don’t always think of myself in an “educator” role, but this course helped me recognize just how much training, communication, and organization I do that supports learning every day.
Creating this digital portfolio was both fun and challenging. It allowed me to showcase what I’ve learned and reflect on how I can apply those lessons to my real-world work setting. I gained valuable skills in using instructional tools, organizing content effectively, and designing a professional online presence that represents me and my goals. I especially loved that we were encouraged to go above and beyond—and with Dr. Cowan’s guidance, it felt natural to want to do just that. Her passion for teaching and her detailed, thoughtful feedback made all the difference.
One thing that stood out to me during this project was how much overlap there was between this class and The Adult Learner, also taught by Dr. Cowan. That overlap created a unique experience—it made both classes more challenging at times, because there was a lot of deep, reflective work happening all at once. But at the same time, it made both classes easier to navigate because the themes, tools, and strategies complemented each other so well. It helped me see the big picture of how adult education works from both a theoretical and practical perspective.
One of the coolest outcomes from this class is that I’ve started creating a monthly newsletter for my department! Using the design and tech skills I picked up from this course, I’ve been able to build something both informative and engaging. Even better—my coworkers have noticed. They’ve started sending me updates, stories, and contributions for the newsletter, and it’s turning into a great team communication tool. It’s something I never expected to do, and now it’s one of my favorite parts of the job!
This ePortfolio is more than just a class assignment—it's a representation of my growth and learning. I feel more confident in my ability to support others, share resources, and contribute meaningfully in my role. I’m so grateful for this journey and for Dr. Cowan’s support along the way.
Thank you, Dr. Cowan, for helping me see what I’m capable of!
